STOCKER ASSOCIATES
This is a small, enthusiastic, and talented practice currently comprising a senior designer, Mr. Christian Stocker (60) trained in Engineering in the USA and in Architecture at the Architectural Association in London. His experience in these two disciplines is reflected in his particular attitude to solving design problems. Over the recent years he has concentrated on the design of the living space. His approach defies being categorized as engineering, architecture, interior or furniture design. It is rather a fusion of any or all of these as the design brief demands.
At present we are primarily involved in domestic projects of varying scales and types for private clients, but also frequently get involved with the design of office space, bars, restaurants, furniture and product design.
Recently we have worked on a number of challenging domestic properties as varied as New England, more specifically in Wellesley Massachusetts, Cos Cob Connecticut, Jamaica Vermont, as well as in the Costa Brava, Spain, Normandy and now in the Gers.
The live projects within the office at the moment are a number of designs for living spaces within barn conversions in the Gers and the Tarn et Garonne, and also work to create contemporary living spaces within the confines of some of France’s farming properties.
Indeed one of the specialities of our office is the production of elegant contemporary and functional space and furniture for the purposes of both work and living within the existing fabric of the city – usually constricted and challenged by the listing of properties, or their location within Estates or Conservation Areas etc.
The materials used are usually a skillfully mixed palette of natural timbers, stones, slates and renders with raw man made stainless steels, galvanized steels, glass blocks and sheets; incorporating different textures, colours and lighting to produce an elegant and effortless “whole” finitely sculpted and tailored to suit the demanding and individual requirements of each and every client be they private or corporate.
We have been published in both the international and British press alike; Survey for London Vol. XLV Knightsbridge by English Heritage, Living with Books by Alan Powers, Contemporary Details by Nonie Niesewand and published in the some of the following magazines; House & Garden – June 1987, House & Garden -1988, Bathroom Book – 1989, World of Interiors – Oct 1989 (Design a Chair), Designers Journal – Oct 1990, Arbitare – Feb 1991, Architektur & Wohnen – Feb 1991, Metropolitan Home – April 1991, House & Garden – Feb 1995, Arkinka – Feb 1996, The Architectural Journal – May 1997, BD Interiors Magazine spring 1997, The Times Magazine – Feb 1998, and Home Style – Oct 2003.
